Where is my invoice data stored?

Entirely in your browser. Your own details, logo, and recent clients are saved to your device's localStorage and never transmitted to our servers — we literally don't have a database. When you download the PDF it's generated in-browser too. Clearing your browser data (or using the 'Clear saved data' button) wipes everything.

Is VAT included at 20% by default?

Yes — the UK template defaults to 20% VAT, the standard rate. If you're not VAT-registered (under the £90,000 turnover threshold for most sole traders), set the rate to 0% and leave the 'VAT Number' field empty. For zero-rated or reduced-rate supplies (5% on domestic fuel, zero on most food and children's clothing) enter the applicable rate manually.

Can I charge interest on late invoices?

Yes — under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998 you have a statutory right to charge interest at 8% above the Bank of England base rate, plus fixed compensation of £40 (invoice under £1,000), £70 (£1,000–£9,999), or £100 (£10,000+). The standard footer text on this invoice references that right. You don't have to warn the client in advance, though giving them a chance to pay first is usually more productive than going in hot.

Can I add my own logo?

Yes — upload a PNG or JPG and it'll appear in the invoice header and PDF. The image is stored locally in your browser, not uploaded anywhere. Keep logo files under about 1 MB for best performance.

Does the invoice number auto-increment?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The number you enter is remembered in your browser, and the next invoice will suggest the next number up. You can always override it manually if you prefer a custom scheme (date-based, client-based, sequential with a prefix, etc).

Is this suitable for business or tax filings?

Accepted Answer

The invoice includes every standard field (invoice number, dates, line items, subtotal, tax, total, payment terms, and notes) and outputs a clean PDF ready to send. It's perfectly fine for freelance and small-business invoicing. It is not a substitute for accounting software for bookkeeping or tax returns — for that you'd want FreshBooks, Xero, QuickBooks, or similar.

Is the legal footer text legal advice?

No. The late-payment clause shown in the footer is boilerplate we've pre-filled based on your selected locale and is editable before you download. It's a starting point, not legal advice. For anything contentious — a client disputing interest, for example — talk to a solicitor or accountant familiar with commercial law in your jurisdiction.
